Position Overview

We’re looking for a dependable, hardworking Barn Assistant to support daily horse care and barn operations.

This is a part-time position (20–25 hours/week) with a schedule that includes

weekends and split shifts (morning and afternoon/evening blocks). Flexibility is

important, as hours may vary based on herd and program needs.

This role is hands-on, physical, and essential to keeping the barn running safely and

smoothly.

What You’ll Do:

Horse Care

  • Feed horses according to established routines

  • Turn horses in and out safely

  • Clean stalls and maintain bedding

  • Ensure horses have clean, fresh water

  • Apply blankets, fly gear, etc. as needed

  • Monitor horse health and report concerns promptly

  • Assist with grooming and basic handling

Barn & Facility Care

  • Keep barn spaces clean, organized, and safe

  • Maintain aisles, tack areas, and feed rooms

  • Clean and store equipment properly

  • Help maintain paddocks, fencing, and walkways

  • Follow all barn procedures and safety protocols

Team & Volunteer Support

  • Help create a welcoming environment for volunteers and visitors

  • Communicate clearly with staff and leadership

  • Support volunteers by modeling safe, effective practices

  • Participate in team meetings as needed

What We’re Looking For

  • Hands-on experience working with horses

  • Comfortable handling horses safely and confidently

  • Strong work ethic and ability to take initiative

  • Good communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to follow direction and work independently

  • Positive, respectful attitude with people and animals

Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical barn work

  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Availability for weekends and split shifts is required

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Work Environment

This is an active, outdoor role at a busy equine facility with exposure to weather, dust,

and physical labor.
