Position Overview
We’re looking for a dependable, hardworking Barn Assistant to support daily horse care and barn operations.
This is a part-time position (20–25 hours/week) with a schedule that includes
weekends and split shifts (morning and afternoon/evening blocks). Flexibility is
important, as hours may vary based on herd and program needs.
This role is hands-on, physical, and essential to keeping the barn running safely and
smoothly.
What You’ll Do:
Horse Care
Feed horses according to established routines
Turn horses in and out safely
Clean stalls and maintain bedding
Ensure horses have clean, fresh water
Apply blankets, fly gear, etc. as needed
Monitor horse health and report concerns promptly
Assist with grooming and basic handling
Barn & Facility Care
Keep barn spaces clean, organized, and safe
Maintain aisles, tack areas, and feed rooms
Clean and store equipment properly
Help maintain paddocks, fencing, and walkways
Follow all barn procedures and safety protocols
Team & Volunteer Support
Help create a welcoming environment for volunteers and visitors
Communicate clearly with staff and leadership
Support volunteers by modeling safe, effective practices
Participate in team meetings as needed
What We’re Looking For
Hands-on experience working with horses
Comfortable handling horses safely and confidently
Strong work ethic and ability to take initiative
Good communication and teamwork skills
Ability to follow direction and work independently
Positive, respectful attitude with people and animals
Requirements
Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical barn work
Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
Availability for weekends and split shifts is required
High school diploma or equivalent
Work Environment
This is an active, outdoor role at a busy equine facility with exposure to weather, dust,
and physical labor.
