Elly Nichols - Barn Assistant
When did you begin your relationship at High Horses? I joined the team as a barn assistant in August 2026.
How did you become involved with High Horses? had just stepped away from my full time corporate position to stay home with my daughter and came across the barn assistant position. I knew it was a perfect fit being a fulfilling part time position and also allowing me the work life balance I was searching for.
Did you grow up around horses? Do you currently have horses? I grew up on a horse farm in southeastern Michigan. We had anywhere from 2-10 horses and spent a lot of time showing at local 4-H and equestrian team shows. I also played polo at Michigan State University and continued to play in Atlanta for a few years after graduating. I do not currently have any horses and I am so grateful that High Horses provides me with the opportunity to still be involved in the horse world!
What is your educational background? I went to Michigan State University for a bachelors degree in both food science and packaging. I worked as a senior packaging engineer for a hair care company for 5 years.
What impact do you see with equine-assisted services? The impact of High Horses and the services they provide is obvious to anyone who is involved. Not only do clients benefit physically but also from the emotional regulation and self confidence that horses provide. Being involved and being able to witness the improvements and joy that is brought to our clients is truly an honor. Everyone involved cares deeply about the organization and the impact on the community.
What are some of your favorite non-horse or therapy-related hobbies? I have an almost 2 year old daughter and I am obsessed with being a mom. My family and I love to be outside hiking, exploring parks, and gardening! I also enjoy reading and have just started to experiment with some hand embroidery!
