Susan Miller - Director of Adaptive Riding and Horsemanship Programs
Susan Miller, CTRI, ESMHL Susan Miller brings more than 25 years of experience in therapeutic horsemanship, equine education, and nonprofit leadership to High Horses. Having been part of the High Horses community for over two decades as a Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor and later Program Director, she
is excited to return to an organization that has long been at the heart of her professional journey.
Susan holds an Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Professional Studies. She is an Advanced Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor (CTRI) as well as and Equine Specialist in
Mental Health and Learning (ESMHL) through PATH International and was honored as PATH International's 2020 Professional of the Year, a national recognition of her leadership, dedication, and contributions to
the field of equine-assisted services. Her background reflects a lifelong commitment to both education and the transformative relationship between horses and people.
Her passion for horses began in childhood and has continued to evolve through decades of riding, training, and learning. Susan has experience in saddle seat, hunt seat, dressage, and western disciplines and
believes that every horse has something to teach those willing to listen. She is continually expanding her knowledge of horse behavior, welfare, training, and horsemanship, embracing the idea that great teaching begins with being a lifelong student.
Beyond High Horses, Susan has been deeply involved in Vermont's equestrian community. She has served as President of the Vermont Horse Council, Vice President of the Vermont Horse Shows Association, and
managed the Connecticut Valley Fair Horse Show Series for many years. These experiences have strengthened her commitment to building inclusive equestrian communities and creating opportunities for riders of all ages
and abilities.
Susan is also a Reiki Master, and her teaching philosophy reflects a holistic approach that values connection, curiosity, and continual growth. She believes that every participant, horse, volunteer, and
instructor has something to learn from one another. Her approach is grounded in meeting people where they are, fostering confidence through meaningful relationships, and creating an environment where both horses
and humans can thrive together.
When she isn't at the barn, Susan can usually be found continuing to learn about horses, exploring new approaches to horsemanship, or simply enjoying time with her own horses. She is honored to be part of High
Horses' mission of changing lives through the healing power of horses.
